Biographical history

Joseph Frederick Madden came to Kingston from Kirkland Lake. He worked at the Kingston Whig-Standard for 40 years starting in the advertising department and ending his career as the general manager and editor of the newspaper.

Custodial history

These photographs adorned the walls of Mr. Madden's office at the Whig-Standard Building in Kingston. He took the photographs with him when he retired and donated them to the Archives years later.

Scope and content

This collection consists of a number of pictures of the Whig-Standard Building decorated for the Royal visits of of 1939 and 1959, VE day and Coronation Day. There are also pictures of local sites: the Market Battery; Princess Street; Kingston harbour; ... »
