Donald Cameron Macdonald was born on December 7, 1913, in Cranbrook, British Columbia. He attended the Macdonald College School for Teachers and, later, Queen's University at Kingston, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1938, and a Master of Arts degree in 1939. During the Second World War MacDonald held a number of positions. From 1939 to 1940 he was a lecturer for the Association for Anglo American Understanding. From 1940 to 1942 he was a journalist with the Montreal Gazette. From 1942 to 1946 he was in the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1946 he began his work with the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and the New Democratic Party. From 1946 to 1949 he was the Education and Information Secretary at the CCF National Office. He held the position of Federal Treasurer and Organizer of the Ontario CCF from 1949 to 1953. He was leader of the Ontario CCF Party from 1953 to 1961. From 1961 to 1970 he was leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party. He was MPP for York South from 1955 to 1982. He was Chairman of the Ontario NDP Caucus from 1982 to 1982 and Federal President of the NDP from 1971 to 1975. From 1986 to 1991 he was Chairman of the Commission on Election Finances. His writings include two books: Government and Politics of Ontario (1975 and revised editions in 1980 and 1985) and The Happy Warrior (1988). He is also author of numerous articles and book review for Canadian newspapers and periodicals. Macdonald passed away in 2008.

Flora Isabel MacDonald was an administrative assistant in the Political Studies Department at Queen's University. She was elected Member of Parliament for Kingston in 1972 as a Progressive Conservative and served until 1988. She was Canada's first foreign minister, and was one of the first women to vie for the leadership of a major Canadian political party.

Grant Kenneth Macdonald was born on June 27, 1909 in Montreal. From 1928 to 1929 he studied art under Carl Ahrens in Galt. From 1929 to 1930 he was a part-time student at the Ontario College of Art. He studied under George Bridgman at the Art Student's league, New York City from 1931 to 1932 and 1939 to 1940. From 1932 to 1933 he studied at Heatherley's Art School, London, England. From 1928 to 1929 he worked as a photo retoucher at the Toronto Star. From this period on he contributed illustrations to many periodicals and newspapers including the Globe and Mail, Star Weekly, Mayfair, Chatelaine, Maclean's and Saturday Night. From 1943 to1946 he was an artist in the Directorate of Special Services, Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Regiment. Numerous wartime drawings were published in the Montreal Gazette. He illustrated many books published in the years 1927 to 1954. The books included several works by Robertson Davies, Tyrone Guthrie and C.L. Burton. Macdonald was instructor in figure drawing at the Queen's University Summer School in 1948, 1952, 1953, 1964 and 1965. He worked as an artist in Kingston from 1951 to the end of his career. His works were exhibited in numerous one-man exhibitions throughout Canada and England. He died in Kingston on September 18, 1987
