Incorporated in July 1981, Preserve Our Wrecks (POW), Kingston aims to further public knowledge and appreciation of Ontario's marine heritage working towards three principal objectives: assisting museums and public archives in acquiring information and displaying artifacts pertaining to Ontario marine history; undertaking public education projects; and surveying, documenting and encouraging the preservation of shipwrecks in Ontario's lakes as a resource of historical value to the public in the Province and Canada.
Preserve Our Wrecks is dedicated to working with other historical, archaeological and conservation bodies to promote awareness of, and an educated respect for, the rich maritime heritage of Kingston, Ontario. Members undertake public presentations, engage in underwater surveys and inspections of important heritage sites and annually provide moorings on frequently visited dive sites to reduce the damage caused by careless anchoring and other activities. The Organisation also provides training for avocational underwater archaeologists under the auspices of the internationally respected Nautical Archaeology Society.

Dr. David C. Symington was a world-renowned specialist in rehabilitation medicine who received many awards for his dedication to disabled populations around the world. Born in Glasgow, he graduated from the University of Glasgow medical school in 1951. Dr. Symington became a Professor of Queen's University in 1966, specifically hired to establish its Department of Physical Medicine and School of Rehabilitation Medicine.He was also the Founding Director of the Regional Rehabilitation Centre for Eastern Ontario. He was a Past President of Rehabilitation International and was also the Chairman of its Medical Committee. He was a member of the World Health Organization (WHO), serving on their expert advisory panel on rehabilitation. Dr. Symington passed away in Kingston on May 27 2020.

The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario is a political party based in Ontario, known before 1943 as the Conservative Party.

The Progressive Conservative Party dates to the 1854 "Liberal-Conservative" coalition government for the United Province of Canada, led by Sir John A. MacDonald. In the 1867 federal election candidates ran under "Liberal-Conservative" as well as "Conservative" party banners, but by the late nineteenth century the term "conservative" gradually was supplanting that of "liberal- conservative".

In 1943 the federal Conservative Party, under the direction of leader John Bracken, changed the party name to "Progressive Conservative Party," and the Ontario provincial Conservative Party followed suit, calling themselves the "Ontario Progressive Conservative Party." However, for many years the official name of the party, as reflected in legal documents, was the Ontario Progressive Conservative Association. The party's 1989 constitution changed this, making "Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario" the official title of the party.
