The Rideau 150 Citizen's Committee was established in May 1980 in collaboration with Parks Canada to prepare events in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Rideau Canal. . Patrick Watson and Cameron Graham were national co-chairmen, with regional chairs in the Northern Area (Georges Bédard), Central Area (F.C.L. Wyght) and Southern Area (Neil A. Patterson) of the Rideau Canal. The Central and Southern Areas also had vice-chairpersons for various cities and municipalities along the canal. The Southern Area extended from Narrows to Kingston.

Born Wilda Viola Baker in Livonia, New York, she graduated from Queen's University at Kingston, Ont. with a B.A. in 1943. During her time at Queen's she was President of the Levana Society.

She is also a former President of both the Queen's National Alumni, and National Alumnae, Associations; and has also served as a member of the University's Board of Trustees and this body's Executive Committee.

Parkin, Sir George Robert

Sir George Robert Parkin, educator (b at Salisbury, NB 8 Feb 1846; d at London, Eng 25 June 1922). In his own words, the "wandering evangelist of Empire," Parkin was a successful teacher at New Brunswick high schools who became in the 1880s a leader of the Imperial Federation Movement, about which he wrote 3 books. He was principal of Upper Canada College from 1895 to 1902 when he became secretary of the Rhodes Scholarship Trust in England, where he lived until his death. In 1908, he wrote the first biography of Sir John A. MACDONALD, whom he had known, arguing that autonomous dominions could still co-operate in a reorganized British Empire. He was knighted in 1920.
